Hi! I’m Brooke. A former National Geographic staffer, I’m a journalist, writer, and editor who’s passionate about travel and conservation.
Topics I cover include sustainable travel, positive-impact tourism, local culture, animals, adventure, and nature-themed experiences. I’ve written for National Geographic, Inspirato, Consumers’ Checkbook, and more.
I also take on editing projects and help run The Travel Book Club, which hosts author chats and provides travel tips. Driven by curiosity and the belief that learning about our world can inspire us to protect it, I build on my experience in top-notch media to create content that’s relevant, meaningful, and engaging.
During my seven years at Nat Geo, I was an editor for National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler magazines. I also commissioned, edited, and wrote digital travel features. My work contributed to Traveler winning a Lowell Thomas Gold Award for Best Travel Magazine.
Previous editorial stints include roles at Where Washington magazine, American University, and Humane World for Animals, where I helped launch All Animals magazine.
Raised as a CIA kid moving between Washington, D.C., and the Middle East, I took my first international flight at four months old, along with the family dog and cat. I’m based in the D.C. area and spend my free time hiking with my borzoi, learning dance moves, and dreaming about where to go next.
